The diamond saw blades are assembled of two parts: the diamond segments and the steel blade blanks.

1. Diamond Segment: The Cutting Part
The diamond segments are made up of two components: diamond crystals and metal bonds(metal powder).

a. Diamond Crystals (Cut element)
The diamond crystal grits used are manufactured or synthetic as opposed to natural diamonds. Artificial diamond grits are preferred over natural diamond grits since key characteristics like grit shape, size, strength and hardness can be exactly controlled during the manufacturing procedure. The ability to control the key characteristics of the synthetic diamond grits allows for accurate prediction of cutting speed, sharpness and blade life as well as consistent repeatability.

Some other important factors to consider about diamond saw blades and diamond segments are:

the amount of diamond grit in the segment

the quality of the diamond grit in the segment

the size of the diamond grit in the segment

Amount of Diamond Crystals :
The amount of diamond Crystals in the diamond segment is variable according to the cutting application and requires more horsepower as the content of diamond is increased in the diamond segment. In brief, it means that as more diamonds are added to the diamond segment, more horsepower is required to make the diamond saw blade cut well. In effective terms this means that the diamond saw blades for high horsepower saws will have more diamond in the segment.

Size of the Diamond Crystals :
Finally the last thing to consider about is the size of the diamond grit. The individual diamond sizes are classified in mesh ranges as 16-20# or 40-50#. The higher the numbers the finer and smaller the individual grits. In actual application, finer diamond is used for cutting critically-hard material like Chert or Quartz, marble slab, glass while the larger and more coarse diamond is used for soft and abrassive materials like asphalt, granite, marble and soft red clay bricks.

Quality of the Diamond Crystals :
The quality of the diamond Crystals determines the ability of the individual diamond grit to resist heat and maintain a sharp point during cutting. Better quality diamonds can hold a sharp point longer than normal at higher temperature.

b. Metal Bonded Segment
The bond is a mixture of metal powders used in various combinations to achieve specific wear rates and cutting speed. A reasonably-formulated metal bond can hold the diamond in place, just as long as getting the maximum use from the diamond points before releasing the stone and exposing the next layer of diamond. The cobalt is the most important as one of the metal powder.

The wear rate and cutting speed for the diamond segment and diamond saw blade can be classified to the ability of a metal to resist wear from abrasion. Metal bonded with low abrasion resistance like bronze are considered as soft bond. The soft bonds are mostly made up of soft metals for example Bronze and are common when cutting very hard less abrasive material like marble. The hard bonds are mostly made up of hard metals for example Tungsten Carbide and are common when used for cutting very soft abrasive materials like asphalt or freshly poured concrete.  We can also call this diamond saw blade concrete saw blades.

The most easy way to remember the application of bond-to-material is "opposites attract" - hard bonds for soft and abrasive materials while soft bonds are used for cutting hard and less abrasive materials. In some special cases, it is ok to simply judge the hardness of the diamond segments and diamond saw blade by noticing the color of the  diamond segment, the reason is that soft blades contain a majority of metal Bronze, the soft saw blades for extremely hard materials will have a yellow color on the segment.

2. Steel blade blank: the main support part
The blade core is typically a metal, round and flat disc which is used to support the outer welded diamond segments. The diamond segments can be attached to the core by laser welding, sintering ,brazing and vacuum brazing.

Laser Welded Welding blade
It is one of the 3 most common forms of attaching the diamond segments to the steel cores, and till now laser welding is the most suitablable method to give the strongest bond to the blade core. As the leader in laser welding, Chinshine continues developing and improving laser welding techniques. The more aggressive use for diamond saw blades require the use of higher horsepower equipments wet cutting harder materials to much greater cut depths. The steel blade cores for these aggressive uses are thicker, heat-treated, precision-ground and tensioned. The extra thickness and heat treatment allows the core to withstand the flexing stress from the heavier equipment and higher horsepower. The precision grind on the surface minimizes the drag while the establishing the tension of the flatness of the blade at a specific rpm range. Such laser welded diamond saw blades are used for cutting concrete, asphalt or some dry cutting.

Vacuum Brazed or Sintered Welding
The process standard adopted to manufacture the blade core is connected to the welding methods. Lower cost, higher quantity diamond saw blades use either a sintered or vacuum brazed attachment process. Vacuum brazed and sintered diamond saw blades attachment processes are adopted for dry-cutting soft materials with low horse power equipments. The blade cores selected for these diamond saw blades are usually very simple and do not require many of the steps of the blades for more aggressive applications. such small diameter blades use sintered and Vacuum Brazed welding, they need more sharp.

Silver brazed welding is the most popular for the stone cutting blades, people buy diamond segments and weld them to the blade blank by silver welded, they are easy for individual welding.
